CAIRO can connect to the school server via a VPN (Virtual Private Network). This technology allows a broadband internet connection at home to act as a secure, encrypted connection to the school network. By this means CAIRO is unaware that a VPN is being used - it just communicates with the CAIRO data server in the normal way.

Other than a small degredation of performance, due to the slower network, there is, using this technique, no difference between working at home and working at school. This software solution is entirely independent of CAIRO so no further adjustments need be made to make CAIRO work at home.
